ADVICES FOR THE ARRIVAL AT CUBA'S AIRPORT.
When arriving
at the airport, you will enter in the Immigration control.
They will ask you for the passport, the round ticket, the Visa
and the place where you will lodge.
Our advice is to give the name of the owner of the lodging reserved
and the address with all tranquility. Giving fictitious names
of hotels, as travel agencies used to do when providing the
Visa, can cause you problems.
In Cuba, it is illegal for tourists to spend the night outside
Hotels or in not-authorized houses. Even if you want to stay
in a friend's house, he/she should go to immigration office
to ask for permission carrying the house's property and explaining
the kind of friendship you both have. Only if your friend's
house has all needed conditions, Immigration officers will grant
the permission and they will ask you to pay some taxes. These
all procedures are done to guarantee your security.
When going out from the airport, it is recommended to take an
official taxi. There is a person with a walkie talkie in charge
of calling taxis. You should ask him/her for a taxi of the company
"OK", which are economic and taxi drivers used to be serious
and professional.
If the taxi driver tries to negotiate the price of the service,
you just say no and insist about the taximeter. Before arriving
to the exit door you should not accept any taxi proposals (they
are usually illegal and more expensive). Once inside the taxi,
just give the address to the taxi driver so he/she takes you
directly to the rented house.
Don't accept any proposal for a cheaper house because these
are false promises.
If having some doubt before your trip, feel free to ask us.
