Cuban Geography
Cuba
is an archipelago, with 110 922 km2, made up by 4500 islands
and small islands, and the big ones are Cuba and the Island
of Youth (The famous, Island of Treasure).
The country is divided into 14 provinces and 169 municipalities.

Cuba has a population of about 11 millions inhabitants, mainly
formed by Spanish and African descendants, and the mixture of
these two races. It is notable the presence of Chinese descendants.
History
Cuba was discovered by Christopher Columbus, on October 27,
1942. Conquer and colonization brought about the extermination
of its aborigine inhabitants, reason to bring black people from
Africa to be used as slaves. This mixture defined Cuban population
and culture.
On October 10, 1868, independent war against Spain began, and
its domination lasted for 4 centuries. The United States intervened
in the conflict and established a pseudo-republic in 1902, but
in January 1st, 1959, the revolution lead by Fidel Castro triumphed,
bringing about essential transformations in the country.
Time Zone
In summer, the island has 6 hours difference with Spain and
countries from Eastern Europe and 5 hours during winter, because
they are maintaining the same hour in both seasons.
Climate conditions
For Spanish and rest of European people, as well as Canadian,
Cuba could be an endless summer.
Climate there is moderate subtropical. Havana and Eastern provinces
have a fresh and nice weather most of the time while in Santiago
and the rest of provinces in the western part of the country
temperatures are always very high.
Average temperature in Cuba is 24,6° C (76,3° F). It
is around 25° C (77° F) during the summer and 22°
C (71.6° F) during the winter.
The driest season of the year is from November to April and
the raining season begins in May lasting until October. Annual
average of rains is 1 375 mm.
Sometimes, during the months of August, September and October,
tropical hurricanes and storms passed throughout Cuba, but Cubans
are so well organized that it is almost impossible to have a
victims.
Electricity
Electricity in Cuba is 110 V / 60 Hz, although most of the houses
renting to tourists have 220 V so that European people may recharge
mobiles, shaving machine or use other electric appliances.
Plugs must be of the American standard type, so if travelling
from European countries, it would be convenient to carry a plug
adapter.
Use of mobile phones in Cuba
Mobiles phones work in Havana and main cities.
There are agreements regarding roaming with different international
companies, three of them Spanish companies such as Movistar,
